When I saw John Shaw about 5 years ago, he was talking about the Orton Effect. The Orton effect is where you sandwich two frames together, one in focus and another out of focus. Some of the Nikon cameras will let you do this in camera. Some of the newer Nikon cameras offer an auto gain function to make this easier. One of the things that is challenging is getting just the right amount of blur.
But you can also do this using photoshop using layers.
I know that it’s customary on the internet to celebrate a new lens with a picture of your cat, but since I don’t have a cat, I went out to take pictures of flowers. This picture was taken with a Olympus 12-50 mm lens on my E-PL3.

I found it interesting that the local McDonalds had better flowers than the park just down the road. My next trip will probably be more night photography, and I’ll post that here.
I checked and Hearsecon 2014 is next weekend in Westminster, CO. I’m on call that weekend, but otherwise I would be there with camera. There are lots of interesting people there to photograph, and some of the customized hearses look amazing. Last year, I had thought of doing everything in black and white, but for most folks, color worked..
